Facilitating Healing, Resiliency, and Hope:

Trauma Responsive Care

Mary Vicario, LPCC-S

Location: Xavier University

Trauma is now recognized as a near universal experience of individuals with behavioral health issues often resulting in a complex array of social, emotional, and behavioral challenges.   Through understanding of the latest trauma research and careful translation into practice, we can help trauma survivors experience healing, resiliency and hope.

This training coordinates trauma informed care into a framework that can be used by anyone working with victims of trauma.  It includes the three stages of positive trauma resolution (re-experience, release, and re-organize) and the five resilience factors found in people who move beyond their traumatic experiences.

Process Addictions:

Emerging Models for a Changing World

Joshua Francis, Ph.D.

Location: Waybridge Training Center

10945 Reed Hartman Hwy, Suite 302

Cincinnati, Ohio 45242

Process or Behavioral (non-substance) addictions are slowly emerging in the counseling literature and clinical practice as equally powerful and debilitating phenomena as chemical addictions. Technological advances over the past few decades have carved an enormous path into the minds and behaviors of our clients and opened an incredible buffet of outlets for unresolved emotional issues. In contrast, people remain biological creatures attempting to meet certain needs; resulting in an evolutionary mismatch between our human biology and technology. Counselors must be aware of these emerging trends and grow and adapt alongside of the lightening-fast advances of modernity.

In order to effectively work with trans clients, professionals benefit from understanding the unique needs of this population to provide best care and implement clinically appropriate treatment strategies. This workshop will provide clinical mental health counselors with necessary tools to provide treatment for the specialized needs of trans populations in a clinical and educational setting. To facilitate this process, this workshop will challenge the participant’s understanding of certain social constructs that influence the relational experience of our world to promote greater understanding of trans and LGBTQ+ issues. Participants will learn useful assessment tools, interventions, and treatment strategies to implement in their clinical practice.

Counseling the Consensually Non-Monogamous

Alonna Donovan Makinson, LPCC-S

Location: Waybridge Training Center

10945 Reed Hartman Hwy, Suite 302

Cincinnati, Ohio 45242

Do you wish you understood more about open relationships or consensual non-monogamy (CNM) so you could better serve your clients who are involved in the polyamorous, swinging, or kink communities?  CNM clients often struggle to access mental health treatment due to perceived stigma, misinformation and misunderstanding about CNM in the healthcare system, and a lack of effective counseling interventions specific to CNM issues and concerns.  This training will help you gain the confidence you seek in order to better serve CNM populations in the therapy room.  You will learn strategies for establishing and maintaining a safe and welcoming therapeutic environment for your CNM clients, as well as practical approaches to mental health assessment and treatment of individuals, couples, and relationship configurations identifying within the CNM community.
